What is #HiloTesis?
It is an initiative of the RedDivulga of the Crue R&D&I Sectorial to promote the development of communication and scientific dissemination skills of future or recent PhDs.
The aim of the competition is for the youngest research staff in training to disseminate their doctoral thesis in a thread of no more than 20 tweets with the limitations and possibilities offered by the social network Twitter. Research staff in training/doctoral students, whether they have completed their doctoral thesis in the last 6 months or are currently working on it, will be able to tell society what they do, how they do it, and why they do it. To this end, we propose the creation of a Twitter thread to take advantage of this social network and its possibilities as a communication channel, adapting the content of the thesis to a simple, accessible, and attractive language.
Requirements for participants
All PhD students and recent PhD students from Spanish Universities (Crue) who join this call are eligible to participate. Participants must have successfully passed at least one evaluation of the Research Activities and Plan Document (RAPI) or have defended their Doctoral Thesis within a maximum period of 6 months prior to the start date of the competition. Applications from participants who do not meet this condition will be rejected.
The participating research staff in training undertake to have the approval of the person supervising the thesis and to guarantee that the information provided, inserted in the thread, linked, etc. is susceptible to public dissemination. If the research is bound by a confidentiality agreement, students must check the contents used in the competition with the parties involved. Neither the participating universities nor Crue nor the Ignacio Larramendi Foundation will be held responsible for any infringements that may arise from such non-compliance.
Prizes
The competition will have 3 prizes at national level, which must be from 3 different universities. Each prize will be endowed with 1,000 euros, financed by the Ignacio Larramendi Foundation.
Organisation
The competition will run from 00:00:00:00 on 1 May to 23:59:00 on 7 May 2023.
Once the thread has been published, participating researchers in training must register and provide the link to their thread using the following form: https://forms.office.com/e/Ah4zz8Ygpd. Threads published and/or correctly registered through the form outside this period will not be taken into account.
The first tweet of the thread must quote or tag @RedDivulga, @filarramendi, @uc3m y @doctoradoUC3M, and end with “Abro #HiloTesis”. Threads that do not meet these conditions will be disregarded.
Our students create their ‘Hilo Tesis’, great job!
